Tooth Extractions

Undergoing a tooth extraction can feel daunting, but with the proper understanding and the right team by your side, the process can be much less intimidating. At Restore Dental, we're committed to offering a transparent, comfortable experience, addressing all your queries and concerns.

What does a tooth extraction entail?

Tooth extraction is a routine dental procedure performed when a tooth is too damaged to save or when other dental conditions require its removal. While the thought of having a tooth pulled might seem scary, advancements in dental care have made the process more efficient and virtually pain-free.

It's important to note that extraction is a last resort in our practice. We believe in administering preventative measures and techniques to save the natural tooth where possible. However, some cases are too severe and require removal.

Not sure if you need to have your tooth removed? We may recommend the procedure for the following reasons:

  • If the natural tooth has sustained too much damage to be saved

  • Wisdom teeth removal

  • Overcrowding of the teeth

What to expect during your tooth extraction

We don't rush into any procedure without comprehensive evaluation. First, we thoroughly examine your oral health, considering factors like your overall health, existing dental issues, and the condition of the tooth in question. This helps us determine whether removal is the best option for you.

Depending on your specific dental situation, there are two types of extraction treatments:

  • Simple extraction: A procedure whereby the area is numbed with local anaesthesia before loosening and removing the tooth with forceps. This is done in our rooms.

  • Surgical extraction: This procedure may require general anaesthesia as it targets impacted teeth. The tooth is removed in stages to ensure no other teeth are affected. We refer you to a specialist for this procedure.

Throughout the procedure, you might feel slight pressure but no pain. Once the tooth is removed, we will provide post-operative instructions to help you manage the healing process at home.

Recovering from tooth extraction

Over the next few days, you may experience swelling, redness and slight bleeding at the extraction site. This is normal and will go away as your gum heals. Ensure you use a medical-grade mouthwash and avoid solid foods and straws for the next week.
